The photos are of the actual item your bidding on, consider them part of the description as well!United States Army Captain Chaplain William Marvin Alexander was born in Trousdale County, Tennessee on October 4th 1877, a son of Reverend J. T. And Elizabeth Alexander. He was license to preach at Arkansas City, Kansas in April 1900, and was received into the annual conference at Mexico, in 1903; and Palmyra, Missouri in 1905. Since going to Tennessee, he had served as secretary of the colleges and schools department of the education board of the united Methodist churches at the general conference held in Jersey City in May. It was while attending this conference at Cameron that he asked to be excused to return to Nashville to receive the caravans of material arriving from the former headquarters at New York and Chicago to be merged with that at Nashville were general headquarters will be established.
Dr. Alexander moved from here to Hannibal where he was pastor of the Arch St., Methodist church, resigning to serve as a chaplain in the United States Army during World War I. While serving us chaplain he saw considerable service and was commissioned as the captain. After the war, Reverend Alexander served as Presiding Elder for both the Hannibal and Fayette districts. He was president of the Howard-Payne College at Fayette when it was merging with Central College. He then went to the Southern Methodist University where he received his B. D. Degree before returning to Central College as head of the department of sociology and rural churches for eight years.
Dr. William Alexander, pastor of the Palmyra Methodist Church in September 1910 to September 1914, died in his sleep at his home in Nashville, Tennessee On October 4, 1940 on his 63rd birthday. Positions stated that his death was due to angina pectoris. It was during his ministry hear that the building fund for the present Methodist church was started. His only daughter, Elizabeth, was born during his and Mrs. Alexander’s residence in Palmyra.
A man of great ability, and a leader doctor that had attained great heights both in education and religious fields. Prominent in the conferences and friendly towards all he was held in the highest esteem and his influence will remain although he’s passing is recorded with regret. Surviving are the widow, formerly Miss Carolyn Wells of Fayette, and daughter, Mrs B.A Thompson of Nashville.

Awarded to Missouri soldiers and sailors for service during World War I. A dye struck bronze medal measuring approximately 31mm in diameter with the inscription "War with Germany" "1917-1918" to the front around the seal of Missouri, while the reverse has the inscription "The State of Missouri" "United States Forces" with "For Service" to the centre. It is suspended from its original silk ribbon
